This horse is adoptable. The title for this horse will be released from the BLM after one year of ownership.
Clara is a sweet mare that is a beautiful mover. She is a super friendly and curious, overall confident horse. She learned all of her groundwork and stable manners pretty quick and without much resistance. She loads, bathes, and crossties great. She still needs patient and consistent work on her hind feet. Although I am able to pick them out, she is still shy and protective with the farrier and is getting better each time. She turns out alone just fine and with a low-key gelding very easily, although she bossed around our mare pony we turned out with her.
Clara has really excelled at liberty work and her draw is quite good! Someone will have a lot of fun with her in that area. She can be a bit mouthy and inspects everything with her mouth, so I am keeping on top of that so we do not get too nippy. She is very healthy and eats, drinks, and sweats great. She handled shots perfectly. She does have two lumps on her. One on her chest and one on the back of her thigh area. We had ultrasounds done on both and seem to be old scar injuries that do not affect her and the vet did not recommend any more treatment. She is sound and although can sometimes barely look like she is a little short underneath on her left hind where that scar is, that is going away nicely as that scar tissue stretches as she has gotten fit and we massage it daily and do lots of backing to help with that. She had a full exam by our sports vet and I can send her report and ultrasounds upon request. Both of her hind feet were very “wonky” and will take time to straighten out with multiple trims and she is sound.
We are on our 20th ride and as of 6/12 we are at 95 days. Since we are still VERY newly started under saddle, I would only recommend her for someone who is very experienced in the starting process, or has a trainer that would finish under saddle. She will need a lot of miles and exposure off property to continue to build her confidence. I would describe her more on the lazy side and not overly sensitive. She is still very sticky to move out, but does not kick out or buck as we work on forward. As she gets more comfortable being forward, her steering will improve. She is able to canter a half a lap in the big arena. She has a great stop on her. She would be a flashy versatility ranch horse. Someone that does liberty and clicker training would have a ball with her. She loves people and gets attached to her human. She always wants to engage and play!
Please contact me if you have any questions about Clara. I have so enjoyed my time working with her, and our whole family will miss Clara. I am excited to see where her new journey begins!
