Chica is a well-mannered girl that is easy going on the ground, and in the saddle. She has never bucked or reared under saddle, and has never tried to bite, kick, or strike. She really is a kind soul. She isn't a real forward horse, but it doesn't take a lot to get her moving either. She is not a hot horse by any means. She has a nice smooth walk, lofty trot, and a fun, easy-to-sit lope. I really like the way she moves. She has great body control in the shoulders, hip, ribcage, head, neck, and pole. She travels with her head low, is soft in the bridle, and follows her head. On ride #16, she competed at a horse show in a walk-trot trail class and placed second out of five other horses. She's been all over the mountains, through dead fall, up and down steep washes, through rivers, and over bridges. She has been trailered all over, been around long horn cattle, dogs, and a burro. She ties well for hours, is great with her feet, and saddles and bridles easily. She's had multiple riders, and she gotten along with all of them. She really is easy to get along with and has lots of try. I'm excited to get on her every day to see what she can do as she improves. She could truly go in any direction. She has the athletic ability and movement to be a show horse, and the calm demeaner to take you on a family pack trip in the mountains.
VET STATEMENT:
Dr Charles Heaton: “A lameness exam was performed on “Chika” a 5 year old mustang mare. She was a grade 3/5 (AAEP Scale) lame on the right hindlimb on baseline evaluation. A full limb flexion test of the right hindlimb resulted in significantly increased lameness and led to a radiography of tarsus and stifle.
Radiographs of the right tarsus were unremarkable. Radiographs of the right stifle revealed a relatively large radiopacity of mineral density lateral to the lateral femoral condyle. The opacity was readily observable on the CD-CR view as well as the CdL-CrM oblique view.
While the inciting cause of the radiographic lesion observed was undetermined, it was decided that no viable therapeutic option would be likely to bring the horse back to a performance level of soundness.” Please see the attached x-rays and vet report.
TRAINER STATEMENT:
Chris Phillips: “I’ve had questions as to what the letter from the veterinarian means for Chica, and her future owner. What the letter means is that Chica wouldn’t be a good prospect for a performance horse like a Reiner, Cutter, Eventer, or Dressage horse. What it does mean is she could be a very well broke back yard riding horse, therapy horse, used in hand, or a companion horse. I’ve tried to be as honest as I can because I want to find her the right forever home.”
